Elements

Logo

  • Can I modify the HP logo?
Consistency is key to brand memorability. Therefore, we do not allow modification of the logo or combination with any other elements (graphic or copy). Please refer to the Logo section of this website for more information on logo usage.
  • Can I use the HP logo in other colors?
The available HP logo colors are approved by our Executive Leadership Team and no other logo colors can be created or used without prior executive approval.
  • I love the HP logo with only the diagonal lines. Can I use it?
This logo is called “progress mark” and we all love it. However, it is for specific product categories only and limited to product design and packaging.
  • I want to create a logo for my group. Can you tell me the rules I should follow to ensure it meets the HP standards?
To maintain a strong, singular brand for HP, organizations should not create any visual assets that represent a group, team, department, club, program, etc. That includes, but is not limited to logos, icons, emblems, insignias, images, and drawings. If there is a business reason to create a new logo, please reach out to the brand team to know how to proceed.
  • Can I lock any taglines with the HP logo?
The only approved companywide tagline is Keep Reinventing. No other taglines can be locked up with the HP logo.
  • What is the process to approve a third party (vendor, supplier, partner) to display the HP logo in their communications, showcasing our connection with them?
"Limitation of usage of our brand by a third party is usually covered in the business contract. We do not typically allow 3rd parties to use the HP logo or reference as it denotes endorsement for that vendor or solution. To make sure we limit, monitor, and track those who want to use the HP brand, we ask that all requests are submitted to the Brand Central team and meet multiple of these criteria: • Is the partnership aligned with HP’s strategic priorities? How? • Is there current representation of companies of similar size/industry on the partners website or other marketing assets? • Do we consider this a strategic relationship? Why? • Do we have approval from relevant BU or functional team (e.g. suppliers) who own the relationship? • What is the benefit to HP in permitting this brand use? "
  • Can I order a t-shirt with the HP logo?
The HP Merchandise store has t-shirts with the HP logo, as well as other merchandise. For Americas and APJ, please see www.hpstore.com . For EMEA, please see www.hpstore-emea.com .

Sub-brands

  • Can family brands have their own independent identity from HP? What are the guidelines for creating sub-brands?
All HP family brands and sub-brands are approved by the Executive Leadership Team. Before creating any product or solution brand, reach out to a brand manager on your business group or to the Brand Central team.

Color palette

  • Where can I find HP’s color palette?
Work to define a palette that complements our hero HP Blue is undergoing and any updates will be communicated on Brand Central.

Typography

  • What system typeface should I use (e.g. in Google Slides)?
Third parties won’t have HP Simplified on their computers. The font will default to a font used in the application on the recipient’s device. For example, when someone receives an email from HP, the font may default to Arial if that is the recipient’s email setting. If you send emails to external contacts frequently and are concerned about what the recipient will see, you may want to use Arial in your external documents. Customer-facing files should use HP Simplified. To ensure that our brand is always represented without alteration, be sure you save your file as a PDF or as a native file with embedded font for reading only. As an exception, Arial can be used only for systems that do not allow embedding fonts.
  • I have a new PC and it doesn’t include HP Simplified. Where can I get the font and how can I install it on my PC?
In your Desktop, you should be able to find the icon myITapps. Open it and locate the apps for different HP Simplified font languages. You need to install HP Simplified Base before installing any other languages. And you might need to restart your computer to see the fonts working.

Iconogrpahy

  • Can I create my own icons? I can’t find an icon that I need, for my presentation. Can I just get one from the Internet?
Icons are one of the elements in our visual identity system that help create consistency on how we communicate with our stakeholders. There’s a process for creating new icons. We strongly recommend you do not download images from the Internet as we might incur in copyright issues, as well as they don’t maintain consistency with our look & feel.
  • Do you have a PowerPoint with all icons?
We don’t keep an offline collection or file of all icons. Asset Hub is where we host our icons.

Photography

  • Where can I go if I can’t find a photo I need in our library?
While the HP owned images are preferred, if you find an existing stock photo that meets the HP requirements then it may be used. Please make sure you obtain the appropriate usage rights and clearances before using a third party owned image.

Templates

Presentations

  • Can I create a different presentation template from the corporate one offered on this site?
Yes, you can. The provided template is just a starting point if you don’t know how to brand your presentation appropriately. As long as you are using our brand elements in the right way, you can create something different.
  • I noticed that the new presentation templates don’t have copyright information at the bottom of the slides. Should we include it in our presentations?
You no longer must include a copyright date and text in your presentations. However, it is important that we protect the information and facts that are in our presentations. So, you should use the appropriate confidentiality statement in your internal and external presentations as needed. The ‘How to guide’ document provided with the template package has a page dedicated to the levels of confidentiality. You should choose the one that is appropriate for your audience.
  • When making joint presentations with a partner, do we keep our slides in separate identities?
We should always try to maintain our identity when presenting HP products, solutions or services. If we are truly co-presenting and the content is shared on slides, a simple layout with white backgrounds and both company logos is preferred. See the Co-marketing guidelines on the HP Logo page.

Email signature

  • Can I change my email signature to promote HP products/solutions/services or to add personal messages?
We discourage the creation and use of different email signatures. We have one corporate email signature and want to show as one company to our stakeholders. However, it is a business decision to follow or not the recommendation and decide if adding other elements will bring any value to the business or will simply create more confusion to customers and other stakeholders. The corporate email signature can be found in the Downloads section.
  • Should I use HP Simplified or Arial in my email signature?
You may use either HP Simplified or Arial in your email signature. When you install the email signature, you will be asked to enter information such as your name, title and email address. You will also be asked if you want to include the HP logo and the font you want to use. Instructions for creating email signatures are available in the “read me” file.
  • When I try to install the email signature file, I get a Microsoft Visual Basic run-time error. What am I doing wrong?
We’ve seen this error come up when people tried to run the file without downloading and extracting it fully to their desktops. So, please ensure that you download the zip file to your desktop – do not try to run it from the web or from your “download” folder or from inside the actual zip file. Extract the file called “HP_EmailSignature_Install.docm” directly to your actual desktop and run it from there.

Stationary

  • I want to order new HP business cards. What should I do?
Business Cards and other print stationery should be ordered through SmartBuy or P360.

Legal

Copyrights

  • Is there a copyright notice I must use in my assets?
Our global patent/copyright holder legal entity name, when referenced in copyright notices, should be written as “HP Development Company, L.P.” (Note: This is an approved abbreviation of the full legal entity name: “Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.”). It is no longer a requirement to have the copyright notice on our PowerPoint template.

Company name

  • When and how do I use HP versus HPI and HP Inc.?
HP is our official brand name. It is used in marketing contexts such as advertising, websites, and social media. HP precedes family brand, flagship family brand, ingredient brand, and go-to-market offering names, and it is used in names of endorsed subsidiaries (e.g., “An HP Company”) and some endorsed brands (e.g. “by HP”). HP Inc. is our official company name. It must be emphasized in business cards (where it is the legal entity), financial reports, communications to investors and analysts, press releases, and internal communications that are non-marketing in nature (e.g., email and other materials related to employee benefits). HP Inc. should be used when referencing the global operating company entity, e.g., most legal notices on websites, documents, and presentations. HP Inc. may be used when specifically needed to distinguish between the two post-separation entities. HP Inc. should be written with a period at the end and no comma between “HP” and “Inc.” Hewlett Packard should be used when specifically referencing the company that preceded the separation into HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. On a case-by-case exception basis, “Hewlett Packard” may be used to precede brand or offering names, given the global brand team’s approval (e.g., the Hewlett Packard 12C calculator). Any other use of “Hewlett Packard” must be specifically approved by the global brand team. Never hyphenate “Hewlett Packard” HPI was purely an internal abbreviation used pre-split. There is no need to use HPI anymore. We are HP. Assume all other naming and nomenclature remains unchanged unless specifically called out. For any usage exception requests, please reach out to the global brand team for approval.

Naming

  • I need to name a new product. I have a few ideas. Where should I start?
When naming HP products, services or solutions you must go through the official process established for each of our businesses. The process will ensure appropriate brand architecture decisions have taken place and that the names are aligned with the naming guidelines, cleared through the legal trademark search and properly assessed linguistically. To learn more, reach out to the Brand Central team.

Miscellaneous

Audio/Video

  • Where can I find video guidelines for HP?
We don’t have video guidelines. The Brand team is working to produce basic guidance and assets to produce HP branded videos. In the meantime we ask is that, in order to be consistent with the HP look and feel, you make use of the correct HP logo, always giving preference to the blue logo at outro or end cards, and that you use our HP Simplified font in all type treatment.
  • Do we have a repository of stock video?
We do not have a centralized repository of videos.
  • When should I use the HP Keep Reinventing outro or the HP logo only in my videos?
Please check the Keep Reinventing usage criteria to learn if your video should be signed-off with our company tagline. Animated HP and HP Keep Reinventing outro are available in our Downloads section.
  • Do we have a repository of music for videos?
Music sets the energy level and rhythm for a video. We cannot post a library of approved audio tracks for two very specific reasons: • Music is specific to the video content, rhythm, texture and tone, and will therefore vary greatly based on the purpose of the video. • Royalties on audio tracks can be quite expensive depending upon their use, audience size, duration, and expected life of the video asset. For instance, licensing a sound-track for a video only played on an internal web site may be a tenth the cost of licensing that same music for playing at a public event.

Illustration

  • Are there guidelines for illustration?
We don’t have yet guidelines for illustration. Please reach out to the Brand Central team if you have questions.

Approvals

  • Should I submit anything for Brand review and approval?
As a rule of thumb, not everything needs to go through a brand review – be considerate and focus on the basic guidelines for corporate brand identity in this website. And if you have any questions, reach out to the Brand Central team.

Site access

  • How can my agency access the HP Brand Guidelines?
The new Brand Central website is open. Anyone can access and navigate through pages. However only approved users with an HP Account can download assets and documents from the site. Non-HP employees need to Register for an HP ID Account. They will be asked to add the email of an HP Sponsor. Once you get the approval request email, just click on the link and the new user will be able to access.
